Ukmergė Municipality is an administrative unit of the state territory established by law, whose community has the right of self-government guaranteed by the Constitution, implemented through the Municipal Council, which was elected by the permanent residents of the territory. Municipality is a public legal entity.
The Ukmergė District Municipality is a municipality in Vilnius County, Lithuania. The capital of the municipality is Ukmergė, the largest settlement and only city in the municipality. Area of Municipality – 1,395 km², population about 33400.
Ukmergė is a city of 20,45 km² area and about 22,000 inhabitants.
The city is easy to reach by plane, as it is at just about 70 kilometers from the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius or Kaunas international airports. Its proximity to the highway also provides an easy access to the city for visitors and tourists travelling from Vilnius to Panevėžys or Riga.
The City is situated on the Šventoji riverbank. Ukmergė’s old town is one of the 7 most valuable in all Lithuania. It has preserved urban monuments from the end of the 19th and first part of 20th centuries. The old town is known for its Jewish cultural heritage and its Mound, which provides a wonderful panorama.
The most important areas of urban economic actitivities are metal, wood, textile and food processing industries.
Project manager is Mrs. Rima Boškevičienė. She is a Head of the Investment and Foreign Affairs Department in the Ukmerge district municipality administration. She has been and is project manager and project implementation team member in many international projects in different EU programs: Creative Europe, INTERREG, URBACT, Erasmus.
